Procedure: To propose a paper or a session for the GSA Conference, it is necessary to use the online conference proposal submission pages of this web site.  To do so, you must click onto the link "Begin the Submission Process," to the left on this page.  Beforehand, however, you should first read the "Guidelines for Submitting Proposals" (also to the left on this page).

Profiles:  Before you can complete the submission process, you will have to have a database profile on file at the GSA.  Without one, you will not be able to log in.  The GSA must also have a database profile for each potential member of a session or a roundtable being proposed by someone else for the panel as a whole.

A profile must include the name, e-mail address, and other pertinent information about each individual who takes part in the session, the author of each paper, or each participant in a round table. For GSA members, a profile already exists. Do not create a new one, or the two will conflict and data, or the application, or both, will be lost. For non-members, it is possible that a profile already exists. If that non-member has attended a GSA Conference in the recent past or was once a GSA member, a profile will already exist and this profile can be updated and modernized. Again, if a duplicate profile for the same person is created, one of them may be automatically deleted, and that one may be the one you would have wanted to use.

When in doubt about a possibly existing profile, it is best to ask the GSA Help Desk first, before doing anything, at techsupport@thegsa.org for tech support. If you have forgotten your password, use the link to have your password automatically sent to the e-mail address on our records. To edit your profile, to change your name, or to change your e-mail address, just access your profile and make the changes. To pay dues automatically, use the link for payment of dues on the Home Page of this web site.

When creating the profile, it is necessary to type the institution or university or college at which the person is affiliated on the line for institution, even if this is not part of the person's address. The reason for this is that the person will want to be identified in the Conference Program as being at that institution. If that line is left blank, no institutional affiliation will appear in the Conference Program.

Guidelines: It is important to read the Guidelines for Submitting Proposals before entering the Proposal Submission Area.

Withdrawal from the Conference: Proposals may be withdrawn without penalty by a letter to the Program Director prior to April 1. After April 1, withdrawal of a paper presenter from the Conference is permitted only if an acceptable reason is presented to the Executive Director. If no reason or no acceptable reason is offered, the Executive Committee has decided that such persons may not present a paper at a GSA conference for a period of three years. The Executive Director may be contacted at director@thegsa.org.

International Travel Support: GSA has very limited funds to assist a small number of persons who are citizens outside of North America and are travelling internationally to the conference. This support is partial, and is secondary - that is, persons are expected to apply in their own countries for first resort support.

If you believe that you may be eligible, and have failed to secure funding within your own country, and are prepared to pay part of the costs yourself, write to the Executive Director at director@thegsa.org and apply for GSA partial travel support. Since GSA does not reimburse for airline tickets already purchased, it is wise to write BEFORE purchasing a ticket.
