The GSA Conference Community Fund
Generous members of the German Studies Association established in early 2020 the GSA Conference Community Fund to assist individuals in financial and/or professionally precarious positions to participate in the organization’s annual conference.
The GSA is no longer accepting applications to this fund for the 2022 conference. Information about the GSA Conference Community Fund application cycle for 2023 will be posted to this page when it becomes available.
Call for Applications
The GSA Conference Community Fund seeks to support recent PhDs and precariously employed and contingent faculty – including lecturers, adjuncts, non tenure-track colleagues, and visiting faculty – who are presenting at the annual GSA conference. Independent scholars, graduate students, and other educators in financially precarious positions are eligible to apply. Scholars in underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply. There is no geographical restriction on GSA Conference Community Fund recipients; we welcome applications from US- and non-US-based scholars.
The GSA Conference Community Fund prioritizes support for individuals presenting at the GSA’s annual conference. However, if funds are available, grants may be made to those individuals simply to attend the conference, with priority given to unaffiliated scholars and to graduate students in German Studies and related fields.
Funds will be awarded until donations to The GSA Conference Community Fund have been exhausted:
- The deadline for applications for Round One of funding is 11:59 p.m. (PDT) on Wednesday, 15 June 2022.
- The deadline for applications for Round Two of funding is 11:59 p.m. (PDT) on Monday, 15 August 2022.
Note that individuals whose applications are declined for Round One funding are eligible to apply for Round Two funding.
The application deadlines for Round One and Round Two funding from the GSA's Conference Community Fund 2022 have passed.
