GSA conference community fund

The GSA Conference Community Fund

Generous members of the German Studies Association established in early 2020 the GSA Conference Community Fund to assist individuals in financial and/or professionally precarious positions to participate in the organization’s annual conference.

Call for Applications

The GSA Conference Community Fund seeks to support precariously employed and contingent faculty – including lecturers, adjuncts, non tenure-track colleagues, tenured faculty without research funding, and visiting faculty – as well as recent PhDs who are presenting at the annual GSA conference. Graduate students, independent scholars, and other educators in financially precarious positions are eligible to apply. Scholars in underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply. There is no geographical restriction on GSA Conference Community Fund recipients; we welcome applications from US- and non-US-based scholars.

NOTE: Applicants from underrepresented groups are encouraged to self-identify in the narrative portion of the application.

The GSA Conference Community Fund gives special consideration to first-time applicants as well as to applicants who have not received funding in the last two years.

The GSA Conference Community Fund prioritizes support for individuals presenting at the GSA’s annual conference. However, if funds are available, grants may be made to those individuals simply to attend the conference, with priority given to graduate students and to unaffiliated scholars in German Studies and related fields.

Awards typically range between USD $250 and $1,000, and are typically announced within 21 days of the application deadline.

Funds will be awarded until donations to The GSA Conference Community Fund have been exhausted

Applications to the GSA Conference Community Fund are only accepted via this online form; emailed applications will not be accepted. Applicants are required to supply the following information on the form:
  • Name
